The COVID-19 pandemic is a true crisis in every sense of the word. It has swept the globe and caused unprecedented disruption and damage. Health systems are overwhelmed. Entire countries are confined to their homes. Large sectors of the economy have come to a standstill. Citizens everywhere are stressed and fear for the future. The same can be said for companies. Business owners face struggles for mere survival. It is during a crisis such as our current situation when good management and decision making become even more paramount.
The choices that individuals and organizations make in this moment can mean the difference between survival and bankruptcy. So how should companies and organizations react? What are the key factors leaders should be focused on during the coming months? To answer these questions, we consulted a crisis management expert, Dr. Dennis Tafoya, who has more than 30 years of academic and business experience across a variety of fields. He is currently the president of CompCite Inc., an international research and development firm that focuses on factors that affect performance at individual, group and organizational levels. He also has a timely book out this year called Crisis, Catastrophe, and Disaster in Organizations.
In this special edition, Dr. Tafoya provides an expert point of view on how organizations can handle this crisis, how leaders must react, and finally, when we are on the other side, what we can learn from this crisis. We hope this proves to be a valuable resource for institutions and decision makers as they navigate these uncertain and challenging times.
