buddybank Founder Buddybank - UniCredit Spa Italy

Angelo D’Alessandro, the founder of buddybank®, has a passion for business and innovation that he developed over his 16 years in the banking sector, where the main focus of his work has been related to IT management. His career in banking began in 2001, when he took charge of information systems for Cisalpina Gestioni S.p.A. (Bipop-Carire Group). In 2008, he joined UniCredit, collaborating with other parts of the Group on technology strategies and launching its innovation program. Within a few years, he became the global head of the program. In 2013, Angelo created Subito Banca Via Internet, an internet-only bank for the elderly that directly involved them in its design process. This popular initiative went on to win a number of awards in Italy, including Best Home Banking 2013. In recent years, Angelo has successfully forged a strong relationship between UniCredit and Silicon Valley, facilitating cooperation between the Group and America’s leading research centers and venture capital companies. He frequently speaks at international conferences on innovation and teaches in the MBA program of Italy’s 24Ore Business School. In 2015, Angelo became UniCredit COO’s advisor on innovation and digitization. During this time, he conceived and founded buddybank®. He is also leading the project to create this new bank, which will be exclusively accessible via smartphone, and plans to open it for business in Italy on January 1, 2017. In his spare time, Angelo pursues his strong interest in wines; he is a great supporter of Italian wineries, and is studying to become a certified Italian sommelier. He also has a great love for jazz music and in 2004 founded the swing band "CopaRoom." As the band’s lead singer, he croons in a style similar to that of Frank Sinatra. Together, this group of jazz professionals have played more than 300 shows, toured China and taken the stage for eight sold-out performances at the prestigious Blue Note in Milan.
