Chief Information Officer, Personal and Business Banking
Khomotso has a wide range of interests in life which includes a soccer fanatic, the complex job of being a perfect husband, wrestling with fatherhood of his 2 children, a passion for long distance running and academia.
Khomotso has completed 6 comrades’ ultra-marathons (90km) and more than 50 marathons.
He is generally regarded by his colleagues and friends as a passionate lunatic. He is also a die-hard soccer fan of a local team Kaizer Chiefs, Chelsea and Barcelona.
Khomotso started his working career as a Chemical Engineer in a multinational catalytic component manufacturing company.
He held several roles in design engineering, process engineering and production engineering before progressing in senior leadership roles in the same company.
Khomotso joined Standard Bank in 2008 as part of a “muscle build” Operations initiative to bring in people from a manufacturing background.
Khomotso then led the design and implementation of several strategic capabilities required to support integrated processing centres (IPC’s).
These include Lean Manufacturing, operational planning, quality management and leading work for the building of an integrated Payments processing centre.
He was the Project Executive and Head of Group Operations Shared Service initiative.
This project aimed to merge common processing for PBB and CIB. He later took on the role of Head: Features and Services Engineering focusing on redesigning processes; from which he moved into the role of Head: Business Transformation and Enablement.
This included the responsibility for Core Banking, Strategy Enablement, Regulatory Reporting and Business Monitoring and Enablement.
He led the last stage Africa’s largest business transformation initiative for Standard Bank ensuring the move from legacy systems into one core banking platform.
Khomotso has transformed Personal and Business Banking using the New Ways of Working principles to ensure the bank delivers against what matters to customers perfectly.
He has been at the forefront of establishing Proof of Concepts across various Product Houses which have now transitioned into fully fledged labs where the agile principles are adopted and where co-location of IT feature teams with business is critical for the successful delivery of new and improved methods.
In July 2017 he also took over the role of Head of Digital Banking, Moonshots and e-Commerce where drove the digital banking strategy for PBB SA as well and defining and implementing innovation ecosystem “Moonshots”.
In January 2018, following the departure of CIO: PBBSA, he was promoted to take over the role. He is responsible for strategy, transformation and delivery of technology for the Personal, Business Banking (PBBSA) in South Africa. The PBBSA business services 11.5m clients and with headline earnings of over $1bn annually.
He holds a B-degree in Chemical Engineering and Masters in Business Leadership. He is the recipient of the DOW Sentrachem Award for outstanding academic achievement a b-degree level, Johnson Matthey Quality Improvement Award and Standard Bank 2010 True Blue Top 100 Award.
He was selected as one of the Top ABSIP Game Changers for 2016 and he has been recently nominated as a game changer for the Customer Experience Africa Summit.
