Tyrrell Schmidt is Chief Marketing Officer at TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, and Head of Global Brand, TD Bank Group. In this role, she oversees brand marketing, corporate and public affairs and integrated marketing efforts in the U.S. and the bank’s purpose-driven brand efforts globally. Tyrrell leads a team of dynamic, compassionate marketing and communications professionals responsible for the company’s corporate positioning, product and customer marketing, digital marketing strategy, public relations, customer insights and analytics, social media, and field and retail marketing programs. She also oversees the bank’s social impact and community relations efforts in the U.S., including the TD Charitable Foundation, which funds philanthropic initiatives throughout TD’s footprint.
Tyrrell joined TD in 2015 and was most recently Global Brand and Customer Experience Officer for TD Bank Group, based in Toronto. In this role, she led the bank’s brand and sponsorship strategies; customer experience vision, framework, and measurement; insights and innovation; and North American creative services. She led the evolution of the TD brand in Canada with the introduction of the new confidence platform and the transformation of its customer experience practice and measurement system, creating alignment and consistency across North America. During her tenure, TD Bank Group was consistently ranked #1 in brand consideration and most recently achieved #1 most valuable brand in Canada.
A champion for diversity and inclusion, Tyrrell is an active member of TD’s Individuals with Diverse Abilities Enterprise Committee and Women and Minorities in Leadership programs in the U.S. and Canada.
Tyrrell has more than 30 years of experience in marketing and brand building. Prior to joining TD, she held a variety of increasingly senior leadership roles at several global health care and financial services companies, including Cigna, Standard Chartered Bank and Discover Card. She is a seasoned global executive, having lived and worked in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Canada.
Tyrrell is a Board member and guide for Achilles International, a global organization focused on transforming the lives of people with disabilities through athletic programs and social connection. She uses her passion for running to guide athletes of all ages and ability levels through endurance events including the Boston, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia marathons. Through this work she received Achilles International Volunteer of the Year awards in 2019. Tyrrell was also featured on Adweek’s Brand Stars in Toronto list in 2019.
She holds an M.S. in Philosophy from the International School of Management, an M.S in Integrated Communications from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Marketing from Arizona State University.
