It was formed in January 2007 by the merger of Sanpaolo IMI and Banca Intesa. Both banks were already key players in the Italian market and had contributed to the consolidation process of the Italian banking industry. Banca Intesa was the result of a series of integrations successfully completed. Sanpaolo IMI came out by the merger between Istituto Bancario San Paolo di Torino and Istituto Mobiliare Italiano which took place in 1998, and the subsequent integrations of Banco di Napoli in 2000 and Gruppo Cardine in 2002. I started my career in Sanpaolo as a bank teller, then I've been a relationship manager, branch manager, regional specialist for retail banking, regional director, working in different areas of the country. I took actively part to the integration process of the pre-existing branch neworks of Banco di Napoli and Banca Popolare dell'Adriatico within the one of Sanpaolo IMI.
