Enough talk about a new era in financial services, it’s time to get big in small business banking

Small businesses contribute roughly 5-10% of total revenues to banks per year on average. However, despite such a substantial revenue pool, many banks see the market as unprofitable and costly to serve, a segment they’re obliged to service, rather than as an attractive business in its own right. However, according to recent research by Efma and BCG, the small business segment is worth winning. Not only do small businesses have a number of high-value unmet needs and thus significant potential for revenue growth, many of the factors constraining profitability are correctible.

Efma’s upcoming SME Summit will help banks capitalise on the significant opportunity presented by this market. First held in 2004, the annual Efma SME Summit has become the must-attend annual event which focuses on the challenges facing SMEs in the evolving retail financial services landscape.

The summit will focus on a number of hot topics which are front of mind for SMEs today.
These include:

“Clash of clans”: traditional business banks vs. the newcomers
New relationship models: getting closer to the customer with less banking
What are the best new strategies for improving SME acquisition?
What are the basic needs of SMEs? What do they expect from a bank?
What additional, non-financial services are SMEs willing to pay for? How much would they spend on a complex package including advisory, accounting, documents storage, co-working branches or communities?
The role of digital transformation in SME Banking
How to achieve successful partnerships between banks and fintechs
The secrets to end-to-end digital onboarding
Big data, analytics, IoT and AI in SME Banking

Attendees will benefit from a number of new features of this year’s event. Not only will they get to hear from a number of highly regarded SMEs who will discuss their real needs, but they’ll also be able to find out who’s who in a series of short 10-15 minute sessions to introduce key institutions and participants at the event, allowing participants and easily understand who to talk to.
